Sliced Prosser Beads, otherwise known as button beads, get their name from their unique shape. These beads originated in the former Czechoslovakia and were made by pressing molten glass. They have been traded in Africa since the late 1800's early 1900's. Each bead measures approximately 1 x 9mm, with the strand measuring approximately 29" long.
