Designer Spotlight: Pearls, Heritage & Handcrafted Joy with @islea.collection

Welcome to Designer Spotlight, our ongoing series highlighting the artists and makers who inspire us with their craft, creativity, and personal stories. This edition, we’re thrilled to feature jewelry designer, @islea.collection, whose work is steeped in family history and rooted in the timeless beauty of pearls. From her cozy NYC studio to future pop-up markets, she infuses every piece with memories, love, and artistry.

How did you get into jewelry making?
One day, I was flipping through old family photos with my mom and grandma. We only get to be together once a year (if we’re lucky), so it’s always special - laughing, tearing up, soaking it all in. I noticed something: pearls were everywhere - earrings, necklaces, even brooches! Not having them around as much, along with a string of tough moments, led me into a low period. Jewelry became my outlet - a way to feel close to them and create something they’d love. It helped me seem like I was returning to my happy self, even when I wasn’t quite there yet. Creating made the journey back feel lighter, and now, mentally at least, I feel like I’m finally where I want to be. These days, I try to include those same pearls and memories in my designs - like little hugs I can wear (and share), even from miles away.

What kind of jewelry pieces are your favorite to make?
Necklaces and bracelets - because they’re what I wear most. I design what I love, so you can feel the joy that goes into every piece.

What types of beads are your favorite to work with?
I fall in love too easily - but pearls have my heart. Still, my mood (and the season) usually decides what ends up on my desk in the little workspace I’ve carved out in my cozy NYC studio.

Where can our followers purchase designs from you?
You can shop my handmade pieces on Etsy at isleacollection.etsy.com - and soon, I’ll be popping up at markets in different cities so you can try them on in person.

What is your biggest jewelry design achievement?
Hearing “this feels like me” will always be the biggest win. That - and teaching myself everything from scratch, one mistake at a time.

Who are some jewelry designers that inspire you?
I’m from Margarita Island, Venezuela - so pearls and gems are in my blood. Local and other Hispanic talents like @beatrizsantiniorfebre, @reinaldoduran17, and @limalimon_accesorios inspire me with their artistry and soul.

We're endlessly inspired by @islea.collection's way of turning natural design elements into wearable art. Follow along for her upcoming market appearances.
