Old Mali Agate Beads (10-18mm)

These old natural stone beads are found in Mali. Populating a wide swath of West Africa, the people of the Fulani tribe have long put high value on the decorative arts. Natural stone was among the earliest materials used by ancient cultures to make beads for personal adornment. Beads such as these are discovered in the ground where they have sometimes laid undisturbed for hundreds if not thousands of years. Strung on a durable cord and nicely finished with raffia, each bead is unique and will have it's own special pattern and texture. Beads may show signs of age. Good for jewelry-making, home decor, or even may be worn as a necklace. Beads like these are special, as they are becoming increasingly difficult to find!
