This beautiful strand of copper saucer-shaped beads was made in Mali West Africa. Beads such these are said to be made by melting old coins or bracelets and reusing the material. Commonly found in silver and brass finishes, copper Mali Beads such as these are much more unusual. In recent years, Mali beads are also becoming more difficult to find as many of the traditional artisans leave the villages in pursuit of new opportunities.
