Aburi Medley Round Krobo Beads

Take a closer look at this beautiful strand of mixed Krobo glass beads, handcrafted by the Krobo people of Ghana, West Africa. Many of the bead patterns are inspired by historic Venetian fancy trade beads, giving each strand a distinctive traditional character. These beads are created by crushing recycled glass, such as bottles and other glass materials, into a fine powder. The powder is carefully placed into molds and kiln-fired to form the beads. Decorative details are then added by hand using a paste made from colored glass powder and water, applied with a slender wooden tool. Because every bead is individually handmade, no two are exactly alike. Beads measure approximately 9–12 x 11–12mm with stringing holes of about 2–3mm.
