Snake beads are vintage African trade beads originally produced in Czechoslovakia and exported to West Africa. The shape of these beads is inspired by snake vertebrae. While real snake vertebrae beads have been traded in Africa for centuries, glass alternatives such as these appeared only in the 20th century. The beads on this beautiful yellow strand measure approximately 5 x 6mm, with hole size of 2mm. Each strand measures approximately 33" (this is an extra long strand).
