Unusual strand of ancient beads said to be made from natural shell with possibly also some clay beads mixed in. Shell is among the earliest materials used for ornamental purposes throughout the world including the African continent and these beads show the travails of time. An interesting point is that sea shells have also historically been used as a form of currency in African though it is not known if this specific design was used for that purpose. Each strand measures approximately 32" in length with individual beads 14-50 x 18-25mm. The number of beads per strand is variable to the range of bead sizes.
