These authentic black Turkhana beads were worn by the people of northwest Kenya. Less prominent but slightly more numbers than the Maasai, the Turkana people are one of the major ethnicities of Kenya. It is customary for the women to wear necklaces made of beads such as these. In fact, the Turkana people are known for their elaborate clothing and decorations which are used to indicate different characteristics including age and status. These older Turkana beads were derived from an elaborate necklace worn as part of the traditional costume. Look closely and you will see the age of these beads apparent in the smooth texture of the glass. Two strands pictured however each strand is sold individually. Bead shape may vary slightly from round to cylindrical. Add a special touch to your jewelry with these truly authentic African beads today!
I will use a lot of blue for Spring/Summer '22. The shades of powder, royal and navy blue in this bundle are perfect. They will make great little bracelets, or be used between other complementary beads. Smooth with what I would call a satin finish, not super plastic shiny, which I like.
