Commonly referred to as "skunk beads", these beautiful African trade beads are of Venetian origin. More commonly found in a spherical shape, the rectangular version is far more difficult to come by. Beads such as these are said to have been made in the 19th century and sent to Africa for trading. In their lifetime, they have traveled at least three continents and passed through countless hands before making their way to us. Each strand is unique.
