These authentic Djenne beads derive their name from the ancient city in Mali where they are found. Also known locally as Nila beads, they are said to be made of ancient excavated glass and are centuries old. The exact provenance of these beads is not known but it is believed that they may be possibly roman. Djenne beads are a more rare variety of African bead and are found in several colors including white, black, yellow, green, and blue. Each bead measures approximately 2-6 x 2-6mm. Each strand is unique and may vary slightly from strand pictured. Bead count is approximate. Strand length varies depending on whether there is a wrap at the top or not but the bead count should be more or less the same for both variations.
