Product Details

Checkout this beautiful strand of blue color Ashanti glass saucer beads. The process of making these beads is unique to Africa and has been used for over 1000 years. Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, using a cassava stem for the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting and the stem burns out. The Ghanaians have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. Each bead measures approximately 5 x 14-15mm, with a hole size of approximately 3mm. You will receive one strand measuring approximately 28”. There are around 115 beads on each strand. Surprisingly beautiful

These came as a gift with purchase. I would not have bought them, but now that I see them they are really quite beautiful. The color is extraordinary. I did not include a picture, as (and the same was true with the rainbow recycled glass beads, too) it is almost impossible to get better color on my picture than the one on the website. But
