Product Details

Checkout this beautiful strand of blue medley Ashanti glass saucer beads. Get multiple colors for the price of one! The process of making these beads is unique to Africa and has been used for over 1000 years. Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, using a cassava stem for the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting and the stem burns out. The Ghanaians have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. Each bead measures approximately 14mm in diameter. Exact shades of blue may vary slightly from photo.

Perfect for my project!

These beads were perfect for the necklace design I had in mind. They're not too big and they added a nice weight to my piece. They have a slight rough texture, so I'm not sure how they would feel against bare skin. I made this for myself and intend on wearing it on high neckline tops and dresses.
