Product Details

Checkout this beautiful strand of purple strawstack sandcast beads. The process of making these beads is unique to Africa and has been used for over 1000 years. Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, using a cassava stem for the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting and the stem burns out. Ghananians have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. Shade of purple and design may vary slightly from photo.

Kept the promise!

They look just like the display picture (which isn't always the case elsewhere) and arrived quickly. I have long worn the red strawstack beads to many compliments. I just bought the sky blue and am equally pleased with those. Nice long strands on all and very few "throw aways". These nicely straddle the border between formal and extreme funkiness. My transactions with the BeadChest, have been with one minor glitch, absolutely perfect. Thanks, folks.
