Indulge your eyes in these beautiful lapis lazuli beads brought to you from the mountainous wilds of Afghanistan. The mineral rich landscape of Central Asia has been a source of treasured stones for at least three millennia. These delightful, handcrafted gemstone beads come in a special cylinder shape, measuring approximately 8-26 x 5-8mm, with holes measuring 1-2mm. Each strand is approximately 18" long. Lapis is a natural stone that has been prized since antiquity for it's deep blue color. Lapis stone from the mines of central Afghanistan has been used throughout history both in jewelry as well as to make distinctive blue dyes. Some strands may be knotted between beads.
