These unusual beads have been individually hewn from solid stone. The variation in the natural mineral is visible in the varied tones of the beads. Some beads are opaque, others may be translucent or naturally transparent. Stone has been fashioned since pre-historic times to make beads and other adornments. These particular beads come from Mali in West Africa which has a especially rich history of stone bead making. The beads have been arranged in graduated design on a durable nylon cord and nicely finished at the top with traditional thread-wrapping. This 37" extra long strand would be great as a home accessory in a special room or could be worn as is. Individual beads vary in size between 3-22mm wide and 8-26mm in diameter.
